I have a paid library book on my shelf too. Can't really read more than 3-4 books before they are due these days anyway so the increased quota is only good for baby books.
There was once I love the book so much, I pretended its lost and check on the price to pay back.. wow dear me - the used book was so DEAR! So I pretended again I found it. Anyway, I managed to buy the book online later, cheaper actually..
I don't know how much it costs when you have to pay for a book, but this is quite expansive in my library, and as long as you have an item lost or late, you cannot borrow anymore.
Yeah I have a paid copy of a former library book sitting on my shelf...
