I'm such a social slug ...

Departmental lunch still in progress ... At Changi hotel's cafe. I'd finished mine long ago and waiting in agony for it to end. The rest are still chatting ... Can't sit, read, work, or anything I like.

  1. Not really one for socializing for work?

  2. Fair enough - I used to hate networking, but after a while it becomes second nature, and you learn a lot of interesting things in the process.

  3. Oh Snowy, I feel exactly the same when it concerns family's dinners... I do not eat as much as them and consequently, I often have to wait between the different dishes. They all know that I do not like to waste too much time around a table for feeding, and they often smile at me. I'm already worried/complaining about the coming eve's long long dinners... No way to escape !

  6. Basically, I keep much to myself in office, with occassional chats but I don't join any cliques.

Everyone actually knows that I read books while lunching, and a few had jokingly tried to 'ban' it ...

The lunch dragged 'cos the most senior staff, SVP, was held back at some meetings It was a buffet, so we started first, but everyone waited for her to more or less finish before making a move.

I do watch my intake more carefully, so I restricted what I ate and how much I took. What it meant though is that I was idling while the rest were still gorging themselves over 4th helpings or desserts.

Heck, I even had time to sneak out for a quick walk aroung Changi Village and came back for more idling. The only saving grace was that I could pretend to be so full that I became sleepy.

We carpooled, so no chance of me sneaking back alone.
