1. I better find time to do my translations and write up on the history of Qin ... though the "True History of the Three Kingdoms" might garner for attention.
I don't forsee retrenchment in my company, but then again, few entrenched staff ever did. My company had its 1st and only round so far in 2003. 2008 might not need it, but there is no telling what the future holds.
Fact is, while the company has been constantly restructuring itself, I never really had the passion for my job(s) and I started working here thinking it would only be a temporary thing. The lack of passion is the thing that kept me from putting myself into it and exploring and asking for transfers here and there to get into the core of the business.
I am the headache of the HR and my bosses 'cos I'm just never quite there.
2. I am very heartened by what Snowylady said about me - she's confident that even if I lose my job, I'll seek and take whatever job I can to keep earning a living and supporting the family, and I won't consider any valid jobs to be beneath me.
That's the spirit. Every responsible breadwinner needs this sort of attitude.
ReplyDeleteToday my company retrenched 7 staff from Customer Service. My boss was obviously down when he announced the news to the remaining staff. 7 staff for an SME start-up is quite a huge number, but we had no choice because the economic situation will only get better before it gets worse. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteHi Snowy, we all had our rough patches before but whatever happens you don't have to go through it alone. Not with kay-poh friends like us around!
ReplyDeleteWith the current global economic crisis, we might see more retrenchment for Y-2009. Ever since the news of UBS retrenchment of 8000 staffs, it's not surprising other banks would follow.
ReplyDeleteNo one knows how long this crisis would last but then at the very least you must be mentally prepare to do anything to be able to ride through these rough tides.
We must be prepare to face disasters whether it's a man-made or natural disasters or outbreak of infectious diseases.
We still do not have the solution to defend SARS and Avian Influenza it might be worst than the economic crisis but then who knows.
Perhaps we are bless that we are not living in the middle of the battlefield, I'm sure majority of us are able to cope with it if you are prepare to challenge this difficult times.
Good luck.
